James, Oliver (The Artist)

Born in DC, The Artist Oliver James, a.k.a. Liv, is a visual artist, muralist, and activist who currently lives in the DMV area and spends her time traveling along the east coast as a working artist. She seeks out other artists of color, especially black women, with whom to collaborate and share ideas. Through her art, Liv reflects on communities of color as well as her personal experience as a black woman navigating the social and political climate in which we find ourselves today. She has collaborated with several activist organizations, including but not limited to: Greenpeace on Black social justice and climate change issues; NDN Collective on Black and Native Voting Rights; Students for a Free Tibet in their fight against CCP colonization; Future History Now on bringing the arts to underserved communities; and Feeding Tampa Bay to aid in the efforts to fight hunger. Liv’s creative practice attempts to affect positive change and reflect the decolonization that she wants to see in the world
