Jenkins, Natasha Townsel

My art journey officially began at age nine when I auditioned for and was accepted into the Magnet Art Program in elementary school and continued through that program until high school graduation. Although I continued to draw and paint both traditionally and digitially through college, it wasn’t until I started posting my art on TikTok that I realized that there was an audience for my particular art style and subject matter. Inspired by my muse (my son) I began creating illustrations of him and other children of color being…well, children. Happy, carefree, imaginative children. Representation of happy Black and Brown children can be just as revolutionary as art that represents our history, because I seek to represent how I see our kids now and how I hope they can be in the future —without fear or shame, but rather unabashed joy. —Natasha Townsel Jenkins (@themightierpencil)
