“My process is very emergent. Everything I do is interrelated & meant to honor ancestors real and imagined.

I hope you enjoy the fantastical worlds I build as well as the sharing of my lived matrilineal histories.

“They had us reconfigure our names, our pronouns, our family structures. But I would lay down my life for true reunion, our sacred gathering act where we realize our most divine inherent water being selves: joyous, triumphant. I invoke that we repurpose and re-vision the work of our ancestors, a collective who encompass more than bloodlines & family trees. Made of ancestral wisdom & inherent knowing, we are connected through the constellation of a racialized Black existence. Adaptable. Softness is our strength. Let it resound & shake the earth: We are more than intergenerational trauma. We are warriors, lovers, creators, neighbors, & brilliant beings of light.”

This is the lens through which I make my art. And in “Topographies: An Afrofuturescape,” I explore a fantastical but possible world where the seams of timelines meet/emerge, the elements dance in vibrant shapes and colors, and our stories are held in sacred containers and time capsules for future generations.” — Ebbie Russell
